Trust and Security - Relevant or Not?

At an invitation-only event, a priest and a prominent lawyer are discussing the importance of trust and security. The priest indicates that trust is a fundamental building stone in our society. He has heard confessions of thousands of people and, to this day, he is proud that he has never broken that trust, although there were many that caused him moral dilemmas.

Teach a man to fish and you feed him for life

Teach a country how to make cars and you risk losing your auto industry?

There is no doubt that PLM processes and systems facilitate cross border cooperation between manufacturers and second tier suppliers.

Is it fair to say that unsound and short-term thinking is leading to the demise of our own manufacturing base?

Building a standalone solution based on sensor technology is relatively straight forward

Building a standalone solution based on sensor technology is relatively straight forward if you have a decent understanding of the different sensors available, their specifications and limitations. You know how to filter, aggregate, extrapolate and interpret the data they produce, converting large volumes of data into more manageable information.

Change management v/s change management

I have been pushing for innovation and change in every organisation I have ever worked in. It has always been an uphill battle in both directions, up and down the organisational hierachy.

Playing with a new piece of software the other day which was heralded as facilitating change management, it suddenly dawned on me that whilst on the one side we have people trying to manage the (ever more complex) operational aspects of change, on the other side there are people like me who wish to change the way things are done.

Survival: Taking PLM beyond technology

"It is not the strongest of the species that survives nor the most intelligent. It is the one that is most adaptable to change"(Charles Darwin)

Before addressing this year's PLM scene we should take a step back, and consider a broader view. Not just the PLM scene but the state of the manufacturing base at the core of our suffering economy.

The shift to low-cost producing countries fuelled the need for better collaborative design and manufacturing tools.

Lost in Technology

"Hey Mr. Customer, do we have a technology for you?"

Why is it that technology companies are so keen on their own technology that they seem to forget what it was the customer really needed?

Economic meltdown. A time to reconsider.

Time to tighten our belts, yet again

Jimmy Briggs explained 35 years ago that during the war, the government had told him to tighten his belt and after that he never stopped tightening. Ever since, enterprises have become meaner and leaner and still leaner. Lean manufacturing has taken on a whole new meaning. (No pun intended).
